WW1 Large Barrel Match Holder made from the Teak of H.M.S. SESAME

Here on offer is a genuine piece of teak wood from H.M.S. SESAME made into a ribbed barrel shaped large match holder.It has a polished nickel plaque pinned to the front, which reads:FROM THE TEAKOFH.M.S. SESAMESome history about H.M.S. SESAME.HMS Sesame was an S-class destroyer, which served with the Royal Navy in the twentieth century. Launched on 30th November 1918 just after the end of the WW1, the ship was commissioned into the Reserve Fleet. A year later, the destroyer was sent to Latvia in support of the country's call for independence, arriving just at the cessation of that county's war of independence. Returning to the United Kingdom, Sesame was later equipped to act as a plane guard within the Home Fleet, with all armament removed and a davit fitted to rescue aircraft. The vessel remained in that configuration for a short time, but the London Naval Treaty sounded the death knell for the ship as it limited the destroyer tonnage that the Royal Navy could operate. As newer and more powerful destroyers entered service, Sesame was one of those retired, being sold to be broken up on 4th May 1934.The barrel is in great condition but does have a hairline crack down one side, but the crack is 'solid and doesn't move under pressure.It measures 7.5cm (3') diameter at its widest point by 8cm (3.2') high and weighs 100g.A great piece of WW1 British Naval memorabilia!Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.Please see my TERMS OF BUSINESS regarding Deliver Charges and Insurance regarding additional insurance cover, should you require it, BEFORE the item is dispatched.The responsibility lies with the customer to check with your Customs restrictions that this item can be imported into your country.Thank you for taking the time to look.
