Description

A British officers steel helmet of the early war period with New Bond Street, London private purchase liner.Helmet shell is a standard MkII shell with 1940 date to underside along with the maker initials 'JSS' for Joseph Sankey. Paint finish is of rough textured khaki typical for army issues after 1940. The leather liner system is of a pattern generally regarded as being for mounted troops with a much lower rear nape providing more stability when mounted on a horse. Of quality leather construction with tan canvas outer there is also a padded pressure relief system to the forehead area. The remains of the partially worn tailor label appear to be from the hatmaker 'Woodhouse' who was based in New Bond Street , London traditionally the home of high end London tailoring. Web chinstrap intact.
