Description

Cabul Medal with original clip and bar suspensionSutlej Medal for MOODKEE clasps; FEROZESHUHUR/SOBRAONBoth named to: PAYMASTER ROBT.BLUNTISH 9TH REGTMedals about good very fine, a few e/nicks on the Sutjej. Robert Bluntish was born in Westminster, London in 1786 and was commissioned Paymaster, 10th (North Lincolnshire) Regiment on 14 December 1809, aged 23. Serving through the rest of the Napoleonic War, he was placed on half pay by reduction for 12 years until December 1828. It appears he then retired, having lived in Avranches, France for the previous 5 years. His papers state he was endeavouring to emigrate to New Holland, but this evidently never happened as, on 18 October 1833, he was commissioned into the 9th (East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot. Promoted Captain, Paymaster in 1840 while serving at Agra, Bengal, Robert served through the Afghan campaign of 1842 and later the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, where he was present at the battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur, and Sobraon.Robert died on 27 September 1851 in Athlone, Westmeath, Ireland, at the age of 65 whilst still serving with the Regiment. Interestingly his son, also an officer of the 9th, served with him during the Sutlej campaign.Comes with further biographical copied details.
