Description

Original period manufacture. A very artfully done trench art shell vase made from a French 75 mm shell casing.The design depicts a US flown, French Spad, winged eagle over a crouching tiger, and another image of a tiger chewing on Kaiser Wilhelm. Large numerals, 141, can be seen, overall anold brass patina finish.The 141st Aero Squadron was one of the few US Air Service squadrons to see combat in France prior to November 11th 1918. Althoughof limited duration, they did manage to operate combat patrols and were credited with two victories, with no losses to themselves.Rolled up, and placed inside the vase at the time of our purchase, is a copy of the unit history of the 141s Aero Squadron, to include a roster.
