1939 dated, wooden ARP gas or alarm rattle. Dated and marked A.R.P. with a manufacturer's mark of ' W.Clements & Sons '. A carry over from the First World War when rattles were used, amongst other things to warn of the presence of gas. In good, clean and loud working order !
