A rare original circa 1932 period 'Alice in Wonderland Childrens League fundraising badge'; bronzed example bearing white enamel title surround, the centre depicting an embossed historic image of the head of a Cheshire Cat on red translucent enamel ground; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'TOYE & Co LONDON'. Very good condition,complete with original pin fittings, no enamel loss.Diameter approx 26mm.The children's branch of the 'Lewis Carroll Memorial Fund' formed the 'Alice in Wonderland Childrens League' to raise funds for the Lewis Carroll Ward For Children at St. Mary's Hospital. A child paying the modest sum of one shilling could be enrolled a member of the league with a badge presented bearing a 'Cheshire Cat'.
