US M1 Helmet - D-Day Provenance

Description

A United States army M1 helmet with D-Day provenance. Green cork-grit helmet with front seam and swivel bales. Two small dents in crown. 1943 pattern web liner. Inner shell has a corporal's stripe to the front. With chinstrap and neckstrap. A hand-written label glued to the inner liner attributes the helmet to a corporal in the 79th Infantry Division who landed on Utah Beach on June 6, 1944 and went on to fight in Cherbourg and the Battle of the Bulge. D-Day picture of landings at St Laurant-Sur-Mer also glued to inner liner.
