Original era manufacture.A Civil War production canteen, which was reissued for use during the Indian Wars. Known as a type 3, introduced in the Fall of 1877. Soldiers initials J.M. andindividual number 80, on one side, and on the other the original US Government contract stamp.The original canvas sling with brass adjusting buckle utilizes the Civil War rectangular suspension loops on the top sides of the canteen body.
