Antique Indonesian Kris Dagger c.1890

Commission Sale: A good antique Kris (or Keris) knife in a traditional form incorporating much ritual symbolism and mythological beliefs of the mariners from Southeast Java.Measuring 19 inches in length, the Kris has a tayuman wood handle that takes the form of a deity crewing a boat, offering protection to sailors. The laminated blade is traditionally made from folded iron, resulting in a characteristic pamoor, with a superb riven appearance.The nickel scabbard is engraved by hand with a floral pattern, making every Kris a unique item. These were status symbols and functioning tools carried by the owner, so not surprisingly, this Kris does show signs of use and surface knocks, yet it remains in collectable condition.
