Description
Original era manufacture. A Japanese munitions chest used by a US soldier or marine to mail home his souvenirs during WWII.The box is of pine, dovetail construction, with two brass locking clasps and hinges. It measures 17 x 11 x 7 inches, with addresses written on the lid. Inside the lid is a paper label illustrating a Japanese fuse mechanism. The box evidently had two carrying handles at one time, one on each side, these have been removed. The lid no longer lines up to allow the lock clasps to secure it. Typical handling and age.
