Description
Pte Edward Bradfield Smith R.A.S.C. (1909 - 1995)This collection (tribute) recounts the life of a Normandy veteran, as documented by his son-in-law through a handwritten account (some typed) and a binder of memorabilia. The main focus is his military service, which spans two periods: with the Kings Regiment (Liverpool) from 1925 to 1932 and later as a driver with the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) from 1941 to 1946. A brief involvement with the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) is also noted. The handwritten narrative highlights experiences such as driving on the Mulberry Harbour during the Normandy campaign. Accompanying the account are various personal and military artefacts, including photographs, letters, Christmas cards, military passes, driving licences, a 'bluey' for breach of blackout regs, an active service chit dated 14 June 1944, and other wartime ephemera.
