Description
The armband is in worn condition and was produced for the 'Orde Dienst' of the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten during World War II.The armband is made of white fabric, with hand-stamped purple text 'O.D. ORANJE' and finished with a stitched-on piece of orange-white-and-blue sunscreen fabric, symbolizing the Dutch tricolor. This rare armband was worn by members of the resistance who helped maintain order after the capitulation of the German occupiers. On September 5, 1944, the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten were established, various Dutch resistance groups were merged.Nederlandsche Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten – NBSThe Dutch Interior Forces (Nederlandsche Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten, or NBS) were established on September 5, 1944, shortly after the Allied liberation of southern Netherlands. They served as an umbrella organization uniting various resistance groups operating under German occupation, including the Ordedienst (O.D.), the National Assault Teams (LKP), and the Council of Resistance (RVV).The NBS aimed to restore order and support civil authority following the German capitulation. Working alongside Allied forces, they played a crucial role in disarming enemy units, securing key infrastructure, and facilitating the transition to postwar governance. Members were typically identified by armbands bearing the Dutch tricolor and unit abbreviations.Although the NBS was active only briefly—from late 1944 through the months following liberation in 1945—their contribution was vital in ensuring a smooth transition from occupation to freedom. An interesting object for the resistance or liberation collection!Article number: 15554
