Description
German WWII RDK National Organization for Children-Excellent example of this enameled award. This membership badge is for the Reich's Union of Large Families. The badge features a black enamel outer border with silvered initials, 'RDK', to the top and a canted, silvered swastika flanked by oak-leaves to the bottom. It is a very striking pin. The enamel is in excellent shape. This is very nicely marked to the reverse for the maker. The vertical pin back functions as intended. This is an early pin as the RDK became the RDF after the takeover in 1933. The logo and name changed of course. A scarce pin in near excellent condition.History: Reichsbund der Kinderreichen (RDK or RdK), is the Reich's Union of Large Families or literally: Reich's League of those wealthy in children was one of the most important pronatalist groups founded in Germany after World War I. To qualify as a member of this league a family should have at least four children. Widows were also admitted. This group was drastically changed after the takeover of 1933. It was renamed the RDF Reichsbund Deutsche Familie and became heavily politicized. Dr. Robert Kaiser became its new leader. Under Dr. Kaiser, the RDF became essentially a propaganda organization, promoting marriages and birth among the youth despite the war-related difficulties.
