Description
A good original circa 1960's period 'Pontin's Brean Sands gilt brass badge' in the shape of a small flag flown from a mast, inlaid with purple translucent enamel, the canton depicting a white gull; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'W.J.Dingley Trophies & Medals Birmingham'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright.Size approx 22 x 16mm.Fred Pontin opened his first holiday camp in 1946 at 'Brean Sands' near Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. He gradually increased them to thirty in both Ireland and the United Kingdom.
