Antique Japanese Carved Bone Articulated Toy Miniature of an Acrobat c1870

Sold
£75.00

Description

Here on offer is a fine and rare example of an antique oriental carved bone toy miniature of a male acrobat, that I believe was made in Japan around 1870.He has a fully articulated body and his resting pose, is hanging from a balancing bar, by his hands. It is operated by turning the top bar back and forth which causes him to perform various balancing acts, including hanging by his feet. The acrobat has bone-dowel jointing at his shoulders, hips and knees which allows fluidity of movement in this beautifully made miniature toy.It is further enhanced by carving of the face and costume, which are coloured in this example, which is unusual, as other examples appear to be unpainted. There is a similar plain example of this type of acrobat in the Tokyo Museum Collection. This acrobat is in great condition for its age and can still be operated as it was originally designed. It is however a delicate piece and must be treated with care, as parts can come detached and need to be carefully reattached. It measures 3' (7.7cm) high by 2' (5.cm) wide at the base and weighs 17g.Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description. Please see my TERMS OF BUSINESS regarding Deliver Charges and Insurance regarding additional insurance cover, should you require it, BEFORE the item is dispatched. The responsibility lies with the customer to check with your Customs restrictions that this item can be imported into your country. Many thanks for taking the time to look.
