Indian Army - 8th King George's Own Light Cavalry White Metal Cap Badge, King's Crown

Sand cast in white metal with two original copper loops. A small delicate badge, but in good condition. As worn from 1922 - 1947. The regimental number, '8', over the intersection of two crossed lances, surmounted by a King's Crown, with the unit initials, 'KGO'.The 8th King George's Own Light Cavalry was originally raised in 1826 as the 4th Regiment of Nizam's Cavalry by Sir John Gordon. The regiment became the 4th Cavalry, Hyderabad Contingent, in 1854. The regiment remained loyal to the British during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). The unit was renamed the 30th Lancers (Gordon's Horse) in 1903.The regiment served on the Western Front during World War One (1914-1918) and was amalgamated with the 26th King George's Own Light Cavalry in 1921, forming the 26th/30th King George's Own Light Cavalry. The following year the regiment was renamed the 8th King George's Own Light Cavalry.Comm TeMo
