QSA 1899-1902 With clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, 1914 Star trio with original August to November 1914 clasp & memorial plaque To- LIEUT.C.A.FRENCH.IMP.YEO (QSA)CAPT.C.A.FRENCH.R.IR.REGT (1914 Star)& CAPT.C.A.FRENCH.(WW1 Pair)Claude Alexander French was dangerously wounded serving in South Africa with the Imperial Yeomanry at Tweefontein 25-12-1901 serving with the 11th battalion. He landed in France in August 1914 serving with the 2nd battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment and was wounded at Le Pilly 19-10-1914. He was wounded again 8-5-1918 & sadly died of these wounds 1-6-1915. He was 35 years of age at the time of his death & is buried in Wimmereux communal cemetery. He is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of John Alexander & Elizabeth French.
