Distinguished Service Cross Captain Fishwick RNVR

Description

I don't offer medals very often but make an exception here. Here is Captain Edward Fishwick's citation published on October 25th 1918 in the London Gazette...... in recognition of zeal and devotion to duty shown in carrying on the trade of the country during the War:To receive the Distinguished Service Cross.Capt. Edward Fishwick. The medals are the DSC with a London Hallmark of 1918 in its Garrods case of issue and the Great War medal to Edward Fishwick. These medals are scarce and were not awarded for being present but for facing danger. I haven't researched Captain Fishwick yet but the RNVR records for officers are extant and there will be no doubt that further research will reveal the harms way he must have put himself in to be awarded such an elevated decoration.Rudimentary research shows that he was a resident at one time in Lochaber Street, Cardiff and died in Valetta Malta where he is buried in a military grave. No doubt his Star and Victory medal are somewhere because they were base metal so were not melted in the great silver rush of the 1970's.This group could provide a wonderful research project.Unnamed unattributed medals in the original case of issue sell at £1500 with no possibility of research. At the moment as an indication of the rarity of this medal I only found four for sale in the UK of which two were single medals at £1650 each.
