Description

Here on offer is a really impressive example of an original Wilmot Breeden chrome Jaguar car mascot with a chrome bonnet strip mounted, on walnut plinth, circa 1955.This is actually the best example I have ever had the privilege to own and I haven't seen another example like it.The Jaguar figure depicts a snarling mouth, ears tight against the head, the right front paw slightly ahead of the left, leaping through the air with rear legs outstretched and leaping, a very evocative image and one everybody knows. This variant of the Jaguar 'bonnet-fitting' mascot came about in 1955 with the 'Mark 1' saloon, it was offered as an optional extra on the standard model and eventually as standard on all other models.Between the front legs of this mascot can be found 7/10091/1 WBB, the casting number for the manufacturer Wilmot Breeden. This mascot spanned 14 years of Jaguar models (Mk 1, Mk 2, Mk VIII, Mk IX, S-type, 240, 340 and XK 150) all bonnet-fitted with two securing bolts. The mascot is in excellent condition with just some minor areas of pitting to the chrome finish. What is unusual and possibly unique is the fact it is mounted along with a 10.25' strip of chrome bonnet strip, fitting underneath, as if it was on the car bonnet. Then both of these have been securely mounted onto a beautiful stepped/shaped length of English walnut, similar to the type of walnut used for the interiors of those classic Jaguar cars.It still retains the original green felt baize on the bottom of the walnut mount. This original mascot makes a fantastic desk display for any Jaguar enthusiast. The leaping Jaguar measures 7.75' (19.8cm) nose to tail. The bonnet strip is 10.25' (26cm) long and the walnut mount is 15' (38.2cm) long by 2.6' (6.5cm) deep.It weighs a heavy 840g.Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description. Please see my TERMS OF BUSINESS regarding Deliver Charges and Insurance regarding additional insurance cover, should you require it, BEFORE the item is dispatched. The responsibility lies with the customer to check with your Customs restrictions that this item can be imported into your country.Thank you for taking the time to look.
