Struck on death of Franz Joseph Gall, a German physician, phrenologist, and medical pioneer in ascribing cerebral functions to various areas of the brain. He originated phrenology, the attempt to divine individual intellect and personality from an examination of skull shape.Gall was born in the village of Tiefenbronn in the grand dutchy of Baden 1758 and died in Paris 1828. This was produced on the year of his death by J. J. Barre, Paris.A very fine piece of early medical history, measuring 1.75 inches in diameter.
