US Civil War .58 Caliber Cartridge Box, Maker Marked US Oval Plate

Original era manufacture. An interesting leather cartridge box with a variant style, pull-out cartridge tin with a finger pull at top. The oval box plate is removable now as the leather thong is now long gone. The reverse of the plate shows a stamped makers name of W.H.SMITH BROOKLYN. The sling buckles normally seen on the bottom of this pattern pouch are missing as is the closure tab.
