US Civil War, New York 30th Anniversary Gettysburg Medal 1863-1893

Original era manufacture. Heavy 43mm bronze medallion suspended from a similar material bar with its original red, white and blue silk ribbon. The ribbon is in good condition. A great quality, 120 year old medal.In his book, 'State Medals for War Service', Doug Boyce provides some interesting facts regarding the issuance of this well made medal. The veteran himself had to provide a written request for the medal which was then verified by state Adjutant General. The proposal for the medal, was recommended by General Dan Sickles, with the US Mint striking a total of only 11,000.
