Description

British Airborne Troops Camouflage Denison Smock. As a result of the German paratroopers success's early in the war the British Army formed an Airborne division in early 1941. These voluntary paratroopers were originallyequipped witha grey-green coloured smock patterned after the German paratroopers smocks, until late 1941 when the Camouflage Denison Smock was introduced. The smock was intended to be worn over the battle dress with any equipment to be worn over the smock. This is an early 1st pattern smock with woolen cuffs. The Size 5 Smock is complete with label, produced by the company of 'A. Whyman Ltd.' and dated 1942. The smock has the correct brass 'newey' press studs. The zipper is in good functional condition and marked by 'Swift', the zip might have been period replaced at some point as is often the case with used smocks. The tail flap is missing as usually with worn smocks. The smock is showing clear traces of usage and has been period shortened and tightened by sewing some of the cloth at the back and sleeves together folded, there are some press studs to tighten the waist. On the wearer's right sleeve traces of removed insignia including removed Corporal's stripes, see photos. Stunning original smock in nice actually worn and used condition, this would be a great start for a Battle of Arnhem display!!
