The medal was awarded for the rowing race held on 15/16 July 1939 in Bad Ems, this was the last rowing race held in Bad Ems before the Second World War. The light-weight aluminum medal is maker marked by the company of 'Madler' from Mainz, it comes on its original (specifically folded) ribbon having a pin-back device to the back.
