Description

German M-1860 Navy Fusilier Bayonet (Füsilier-Seitengewehr 1860). The markings 'S.B.4.78.' show this 'Füsilier-Seitengewehr 1860' (FüsS60 or Füsilier-Bajonett M60) bayonet to have been issued to the Seebataillon, 4th company and weapon number 78. The bayonet is maker marked by the company of 'A.E.Holler' from Solingen. It is date marked 'FW61' under a Prussian crown on the blade for King Frederick William IV 1861. The curious point here is that Frederick William IV died on 2nd January 1861, so it seems likely that bayonets were still being marked with his monogram posthumously. The bayonet has brass grips and a leather scabbard with brass mountings as was standard for the Füsilier-Seitengewehr 60. The scabbard is matching and also showing the marking 'S.B.4.78.'. The See-Bataillon was the only naval formation who was equipped with the Fusilier Bayonet M/60. Rare original bayonet in very good condition!
