US M1878 Issue Canteen, Correct Infantry Shoulder Strap

Original period manufacture. Issue 1878 pattern canteen with a tan canvas cover bearing a stenciled U.S.. The cover stitching is sound, scattered spots of staining as shown. There are a few small dents in the body, typical for one of these, but not detracting. They are more felt than seen. Comes with the correct pattern black leather canteen strap, not the more commonly seen (and likely more comfortable to wear) haversack strap. The strap is unbroken, remains pliable but needs to be handled with attention. Correct, original cork stopper.
