Original Third Reich Municipal Police Dress Bayonet By Alexander Coppel-This example of a Municipal Police Dress Bayonet features a large hilt with a pommel adorned by finely engraved feathering. The crossguard (quillon) is decorated on the obverse with raised, overlapping oak leaves, while the reverse is plain and nicely polished, with oak leaf detailing extending to the quillon. The grip plates are made of genuine stag, showcasing rich tan and brown tones with well-defined grain patterns. The edges have taken on an attractive golden patina. These plates are firmly secured with aluminum rivets featuring dressed heads on both sides. The obverse grip displays a pierced police insignia, an open-winged police eagle clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons, set over an oval wreath of oak leaves. The insignia shows light tarnishing but retains excellent detail, with minimal wear visible on the breast, wings, and wreath. The leather scabbard shows expected signs of age but remains in excellent, collectible condition. It is decorated with twin line embossing along both edges. The scabbard mounts are constructed of solid aluminum and feature scalloped edges where they meet the leather body. These mounts show moderate wear from use, including minor dings, and are attached with rear staples in typical fashion. The included frog is made of black leather with aluminum rivets that may have been dyed black at one time. While it shows age and wear, the leather remains intact. The hole for the frog stud is stretched from use but not torn. No maker's marking. The blade has been professionally shortened to 13 inches, retaining a sharp, clean tip. Its nickel-plated surface remains bright and in excellent condition. The obverse bears the Alexander Coppel Solingen logo, while the reverse is also marked with the full maker's name and emblem. This is a strong, representative example of a slotted Municipal Police bayonetβa variant less commonly found than the plain types.
