Description
Original Third Reich Red Cross (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, DRK) Hewer-The German Red Cross (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, DRK) was given organizational status by the Nazi Party in 1938. In 1938, a special and unique edged weapon, the 'Hauer für Mannschaften' (Red Cross EM Hewer) was introduced for enlisted personnel of the DRK. It was a blunt-pointed tool, with one cutting edge, and one saw edge on the blade spine. It was intended not only as a dress dagger for ceremonial and formal wear, but as a practical knife for preparing splints, casts and bandages. Unlike most German blades intended for dress purposes, the Red Cross Enlisted Hewer was issued from unit stocks, as needed. This authentic DRK Hewer is in overall very good condition.Hilt: The nickel plating on the hilt is in very good condition overall. The red cross medallion on the crossguard shows nice details and shows minimal aging.Handle: The black grip plates are in excellent condition and remain securely attached.Blade: The fullered sawback blade remains bright and teeth are sharp, no real flaws at all. The crossgrain is nicely visible. The blade is stamped 'Ges. Geschützt.' The leather buffer is still intact. Overall the blade is in excellent to near mint condition.Scabbard: The black-painted scabbard retains a majority of its original factory-applied paint, with some surface marks.Frog: Not included.
