Description
Original Third Reich RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst) Hewer By Carl Eickhorn-This is an authentic WWII-era RAD hewer issued to enlisted personnel of the Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD – Reich Labor Service). Manufactured by the renowned firm Carl Eickhorn of Solingen, this robust, machete-style dagger features a heavy steel blade with a broad profile. The obverseof the matte finished bladebears the RAD motto'Arbeit adelt'('Labor ennobles'), reflecting the ideological spirit of the organization. The reverse of the blade is etched with the Carl Eickhorn maker mark, along with the RAD triangle-and-spade logo and 'Ges. Gesch.' designation. The hilt is nickel-plated and includes a stylized eagle-head pommel and integral crossguard. The nickel plating shows moderate wear, with some minor surface rust visible. The original stag grip plates are in very good condition—darker toned on the obverse and lighter on the reverse, showing attractive natural grain and color variation. The steel scabbard retains approximately 60% of its original black paint with minor surface rust showing through. The fittings display honest wear and a pleasing patina. They feature excellent detailing in the RAD logo and decorative interwoven top design, with minor rust present in areas. Three of the four original screws are still intact. The fit between the scabbard and crossguard is tight and precise. The hanger is not included.Overall, this is a solid example of a Carl Eickhorn RAD hewer ingood to very good condition, showing period wear consistent with use and age.
