Original Imperial German WWI M1917 Gas Mask Set With Filter, Canister & Spare Lenses (Named)Offered here is an original Imperial German Model 1917 (M1917) leather gas mask set, accompanied by its matching issue canister and filter. The mask itself remains in very nice condition for its age, retaining its full head harness and straps (including the neck strap). The leather is still supple and displays only honest period wear, while the eyepieces remain intact with the expected age toning. The filter remains present and well-marked, showing a red stenciled number ('343') along with additional factory/inspection style markings as visible.The steel carrying canister retains its hinged lid and working closure, with remnants of the original gray-green finish still visible beneath heavy service wear, paint loss, and areas of surface oxidation/bare metal from long-term storage. A partial belt hanger strap remains attached, while the shoulder strap is absent. A nice added detail is the soldier identification hand-marked to the lid, reading 'Gefr. Autmuring' with '10/130.' beneath (as written). Inside, the canister still includes the spare lens compartment and two wrapped spare-lens packs, complete with the original German instruction text advising care/handling of the clear lenses.Overall, a very attractive, largely complete WWI-era gas mask set with great character, accessories, and period personalization—over 100 years old and increasingly hard to find this complete.
