Original US WWII M1 Helmet Fixed Bale Helmet With Early Hawley Liner-This is an original WWII-era M1 helmet featuring afixed baleandfront seamdesign, complete with its originalweb chinstrap. The helmet shell retains approximately90% of its original early OD green paintwith a cork-textured finish. Some wear is visible along the outer edge, with minor scrapes on the dome. Due to storage, there are small rust spots throughout the exterior.TheHawley liner, made of pressed paper with an outer cloth cover, features anoff-white rayon fixed strap and neck strapwith rectangular washers inside. Unlike later fiberglass liners, the Hawley liner lacks a front metal grommet for insignia placement.Suspension system: Made of off-white rayon webbing straps.Sweatband: Original off-white rayon with a leather cover, secured with snaps to attach to the fixed liner strap. Leather is supple, but a little dryNeck strap: Original off-white rayon with a size3marking.Chinstrap: Original fixed leather and is in excellent condition. Most of the times these are broken or missing.Due to the delicate nature of the pressed paper Hawley liner, this design was quickly replaced, making original examples rare and highly collectible. Overall, this M1 helmet with its Hawley liner remains in excellent condition.
