Description

Original Japanese WWII Factory Worker Towel/Headband 'Divine Tide'The inscription refers to the 'Divine Tide,' a term famously used by the Japanese Navy for their Kaiten (human torpedo) special attack units—Shincho Tokubetsu Kogeki-taito parallel the more well-known Kamikaze air units. However, since this particular piece was signed by the Minister of Transportation, it is unlikely to be directly related to those units. More plausibly, it was distributed to workers engaged in transportation-related wartime industries, such as shipbuilding. This mirrors the practice of Kamikaze headbands being distributed to aircraft factory workers by General Saburo Endo, then head of the Aviation Weapons Bureau of the Ministry of Munitions. This is an original, unissued Japanese WWII factory towel or headband, likely privately purchased by a civilian worker as part of their contribution to the wartime industrial effort. It remains unused, with only minor staining, and features screen printed bold, crisp kanji (ShinchoorKamishio, meaning 'Divine Tide') alongside a vivid red sun emblem. Overall condition is mint to excellent.A rare and evocative artifact that captures the patriotic spirit instilled in Japan's wartime workforce.
