WW1 German 'Stirnpanzer' Helmet brow plate .

A super and complete 'Stirnpanzer' .The Brow plate introduced in 1916 is a highly evocative and iconic item of trench warfare equipment. This example is in very good order and has it's very rare leather straps still in place . On examination it looks as if this plate sat in the open for some years after the war and thus has some areas of corrosion and a somewhat dark patina . The straps still have an element of suppleness but are a little stiff . There is a very typical deep factory hot struck R 2 marking . There is the distinct ring sound when struck and the correct even thickness to all of the crisp and correctly angled edges and openings . The item show signs of collector wax and leather treatment in the past .
