A scarce original circa pre-war 'Royal Mail Steam Packet Company officer quality cap badge'; in the form of a heavy duty large gilt flag inlaid with white enamel, red diagonal cross with King's Crown to centre, the impressed with maker's details 'J.R.GAUNT LONDON'. Very good condition, complete with single screw post and substantial nut retainer, one of two points to prevent it swiveling.The 'Royal Mail Steam Packet Company' was founded in 1839. The company was liquidated and its assets taken over by the newly formed Royal Mail Lines in 1932.Size approx 30 x 29mm.
