WW1 VICTORY MEDAL, DERBY YEOMANRY OFFICER & DSO RECIPIENT, MID 1917 & KIA F&F 21-11-1917, ATTACHED 14th DURHAM.L.I

WW1 Victory medal with M.I.D Oakleaves to the recipient of an immediate D.S.O who was both M.I.D & K.I.A To- CAPT.C.R.GOLD. (D.S.O)The letters DSO have been neatly engraved on the rim of the medal after the recipients details. The other details are correctly impressed as issued.Charles Rene Gold first landed in France as a captain with the Derbyshire Yeomanry 18-10-1916 & was an old boy of Uppingham school, Rutland. He was awarded the Distinguished service order in the London gazette 18-7-1917 whilst attached to the 14th service battalion of the Durham Light Infantry with the following citation,For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty. He showed the greatest gallantry & initiative in attacking an enemy strongpoint which had been a severe hindrance. He with only a handful of men, rushed it from the flank, inflicting many casualties & capturing twenty prisoners & two machine guns.He went on to be M.I.D for services in France in the London gazette 11-12-1917 & was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 21-11-1917. He is buried in St Souplet British cemetery & is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of C.P.Gould of Beaulieu, Cambridge park, Twickenham,NEF & Complete with MIC & london gazette details.
