WW1 British War MedalTo- 201260.PTE.J.W.YATES.W.RID.RJohn William Yates was born in Cleckheaton & enlisted in Wyke. He was killed in action in France & Flanders 3-9-1916 serving with the 1/4th battalion of the Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment. He was 21 years of age at the time of his death & sadly having no known grave he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial on the Somme.
