At the time of the 1911 National Census for England & Wales, Robert was recorded as a Medical Student living with his parents in Ealing, Brentford, Essex, England. In 1912, Robert accepted an appointment to become a Tea Planter in Ceylon Colony. During the Great War he was commissioned Second-Lieutenant in 1917, and served overseas from Ceylon, with the Royal Field Artillery of the Royal Regiment of Artillery. After his period of active service he was promoted Lieutenant. He returned to Ceylon Colony post-war and became Estate Superintendent with the Mulhalkelle Group, Halgranoya, Ceylon. Robert Mowat Reid married Alice Mildred Mary Gregory at BristoL, England, on, 3 December 1929 . After their marriage the couple returned to Ceylon. In retirement Robert and his wife lived at, 20 Bathwick Hill, Bristol, and is recorded to have died there on, 15 December 1958.
