Silver issue (Risto Vojichich)- Mercantile Marine War Service Medal (Risto VojichichThe Mercantile Marine medal sometime gilded, and both medals neatly re-pinned at clawImportant: A digital search of the Board of Trade Mercantile Marine Medal Index Cards, held and accessible at The National Archives, using single word search 'Montenegro' in the 'Pace of Birth' field, returns only 2 x names, viz Risto Vojichich, and John Anthony DacovitchiMedals verification: The Great War medals verified as entitled per below following cited references- British War Medal. Silver issue (Reference BT 351/1/84264)- Mercantile Marine War Service Medal (Reference BT 351/1/84264)The recipients medal card shows that he was residing in the port of North Shields, Co Durham, England, when he was sent his Great War ribbons on 6 August 1919. By the time his medals were sent on 24 March 1921, his forwarding address is shown as 29 Rupert Street, Whitechapel, in London, EnglandPhotograph Recipient: A good identity photograph of Risto Vojichich is attached to his Board of Trade Merchant Navy Registration Card held and accessible at The National Archives, see file series BT350. The card showing that Risto held the rate of 'Bosun', the card(s) pertaining to his service while serving with the British Mercantile Marine. Other on-line records show that Risto Vojichich latterly sailed on United States Merchant Marine vesselsRisto Vojichich was a native of Rudini (sp) Montenegro, where he was born on 27 March 1880, at which time Montenegro formed part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. An extant UK incoming passenger shipping record from the Great War era records Risto having landed at the Port of London, 6 February 1916, having boarded the S.S. Dart - on a voyage from Basrah, Iraq, to Lonon, England - at the French Algerian port of Oran, and that he held the rate of 'Fireman' at the time. A true 'Sea-Dog', Risto is recorded variously, as sailing with British Merchant vessels through 1921, and thereafter throughout the rest of the inter-war years appears to have sailed on ships of the United States Merchant MarineThe medals mounted in the swing-style, in reverse order of precedence.
