Q.O.Hldrs.)Upper clasps on GSM 1918 attached by the customary silver rod, as issued with the second clasp for attachment1st Battalion Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders: The battalion served overseas on active service in Aden Colony between September 1956 to March 1958During their service in Aden Colony the main role of the 1/Camerons was to support the Aden Protectorate Levies in operations to prevent incursions by Yemeni tribesmen. While the battalion was headquartered at Singapore Lines in Aden, companies were detached to Dhala, Mukeirasand Beihan in the Protectorate, and at 'Little Aden' guarding the BP oil refineryThe General Service Medal with clasp 'Arabian Peninsula' was awarded to men of the 1st Battalion Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders for 30 days service in theatre (award criteria for the clasp was 30 days between the dates 1 January 1957 to 30 December 19601st Battalion Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth & Camerons): The Queen's Own Highlanders Regiment was established on 7 February 1961from the amalgamation of the Seaforth Highlanders and the Queen's Own Highlanders. The first overseas deployment of the new regiment occurred in April 1961, when 1st Battalion Queen's Own Highlanders was deployed to Singapore, where they were located at Selerang Barracks. The role of unit was primarily garrison and internal security duties in Singapore, but crucially also included training in neighbouring British territories and dependencies in North Borneo, as well as anti-piracy support in the regionBrunei Rebellion December 1962 - February 1963: The first combat service of the new regiment occurred in December 1961. On 8th December 1962, an armed rebellion - together with a nationalist declaration of independence - broke out in the Sultanate of Brunei, where an armed rebel force attacked the Sultan's palace, police stations and occupied and seized key oil and communication installations throughout the sultanate. The rebels took hostages and seized the Shell oilfield at Seria. Battalion Headquarters and A Company of the 1st Queen's Own Highlanders moved at very short notice from Singapore to Brunei by air, while the destroyer HMS Cavalier sailed at full speed carrying B Company. 60 men of A Company landed by five Twin Pioneer aircraft at Seria and seized Panaga Police Station. Simultaneously the remainder of A Company landed by Beverley aircraft at Anduki Airfield, captured the control tower, and seized the Bailey bridge over the Sungei Bera. Next morning the battalion advanced through Seria, A Company clearing a strong rebel force from the Sultan's summer palace, and B Company releasing 46 x European hostages from the rebel held Police Station. Finally, B Company 1st/2nd Gurkhas cleared Kuala Belait. The battalion returned to Singapore in February 1963 on the Commando ship HMS Albion, after its first active service since the amalgamation of the regiment.Borneo 1963: After a brief stay back in Singapore, the battalion returned to Brunei in April 1963 and remained in Brunei through to August. Further services in Borneo through 1963, saw the battalion patrolling the borders of Borneo during the early period of the 'Confrontation' with IndonesiaAn extremely scarce seen combination of medals and clasps to a British Infantry regiment, and generally only possible by 'long serving' 'Jock's' who had prior served with the Camerons, and then the Queen's Own HighlandersCondition: VF
