British Library OIR Ref 355.134One of 689 x Central India Clasps awarded to the RegimentThe below following service details are from the lists of soldiers of the Bombay Army taken from India Office Records L/MIL/12/113Arthur Price was a native of London, Middlesex, England. Prior to entering the service of the Honourable East Indian Company in 1854, he had been employed as a 'Footman'. He attested for the HEIC Land Forces on, 12 June 1854, for a contracted period of 10 years. Arthur subsequently embarked for India aboard the 'Euphemus' for his voyage to India. On arrival in India, he was posted to the 3rd Battalion European Regiment, an infantry regiment of the HEIC's Bombay Army, in which regiment he held the regimental number '697'.The 3rd Bombay European Regiment was extremely heavily engaged with Sir Hugh Rose's Central India Field Force. They saw action at Rahatgarh, Garhakota and Jhansi where they were central to the British success at Betwa with two of the fifteen British deaths being men of the 3rd. After Jhansi fell some men of the Regiment were left there as garrison while the rest joined the army at Lohari where Private Frederick Whirlpool won the Victoria Cross. There final action was the capture of Kalpi where the Regiment Garrisoned the town, allowing General Rose to march on and retake GwaliorEdge bruisingCondition: About VF
