The British and Indian Army suffered an estimated 17 x killed in action, and 124 x wounded at the battle of Ahmed Khel against an estimated loss of x 1,700 incurred by the AfghansWilliam Cullen, son of William Cullen and Elizabeth Cullen, was a native of Waterford, Ireland where he was born in 1845. By trade a 'Butcher' William Cullen was described as being 18 years of age when he joined the British Army at, Woolwich, England, on 7 October 1863. On enlistment he was posted to the Royal Regiment of Artillery. By the time that he took his final discharge from the British Army on 30 December 1884, William Cullen had racked up 21 years & 84 days reckonable service towards pension. His conduct was described as having been 'Very Good'.
