Sold as an un-marked, later strike by the maker J. H. Jenkins of Birmingham, as a replacement for the medal awarded to No. 1390 Lance Sergeant J. W. Goodall, 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire RegimentThe engraving on the star is not in the usual regimental engraved style associated with this unit. However as the original issue stars to the West Yorkshire Regiment were privately named at the expense of the Colonel commanding, any subsequent re-placement medals would all have been un-named, or privately named in a different styleThe only British soldier with the initials J.W.G. appearing in the Ashanti Medal Roll of 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment is No. 1390 Private J. W. GoodallThe Ashanti Stars were struck un-named by the Birmingham medallist J. H. Jenkins, this medal with approximate dimensions:Dimension: 37mm (w)Weight: 21gMedal(s) verification: A search of the digitized medal roll for the 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment shows that their was only one soldier in the unit that had the initials J.
