The recipient was Special Constable No 109 Thomas Pattinson Hawkrigg who served at Rosthwaite, Cumbria (The 1939 National Register for England & Wales refers)Thomas Pattinson Hawkrigg, second son of Thomas Hawkrigg (Farmer & Hotel Keeper) & Mary Hawkrigg (nee Pattinson) was a native of Greystoke (the ancestral home of fictional character Tarzan 'Lord of the Apes'), Cumberland, England, where he was born on, 3 February 1882. Like his father before him, Thomas Pattinson Hawkrigg described himself as a Farmer and Boarding House Keeper, his residence in the 1911 and 1921 National Census for England & Wales shown as the Royal Oak Hotel, Rosthwaite, in the Borrowdale Valley of the Lake District. Thomas i recorded as having died at Keswick, in the lake District of Cumberland on, 22 April 1961The Royal Oak Hotel, which generations of the Hawkrigg family owned, still stands and operates in 2025Condition: About EF
