Description
Original German WWII 1st Model Luftwaffe Dagger By Carl Eickhorn-This authentic 1st Model Luftwaffe Dagger was produced by the prestigious Solingen firm Carl Eickhorn in the mid-1930s. A textbook early Luftwaffe officer's dagger, it features Eickhorn's iconic seated squirrel trademark and retains its original components throughout.BladeThe blade remains in excellent condition, showing only very minimal wear. The reverse ricasso bears the crisp Carl Eickhorn seated squirrel logo over 'CARL EICKHORN / SOLINGEN,' clearly etched. The blade retains a clean finish with no major flaws. The leather buffer pad is intact and well-preserved, sitting tightly against the crossguard.Scabbard:The blue Moroccan leather-wrapped scabbard is straight, tight, and structurally solid. While there are a few minor scrapes to the leather—likely from age and past handling—the scabbard still presents very well. All aluminum fittings remain intact and secure, with only light rust and tarnishing visible, none of which detracts significantly from its appearance. The pebbled leather panels retain strong texture and detail. With careful restoration, such as the application of a modern equivalent to blue Moroccan leather polish, the leather wrap could be further enhanced. Overall, this scabbard remains in very good display condition with no structural concerns.Fittings & Grip:The pommel and crossguard appear to be nickel-based, both showing excellent preservation. The sun wheel swastikas are likely cast into the fittings, rather than being separately applied, as seen in the earliest production runs. While most of the original gold gilding has worn, some traces remain—particularly on the lower sun wheels—adding a touch of period authenticity. The wooden core grip is covered in matching blue Moroccan leather, which remains in very good condition. It is tightly bound with triple-strand nickel wire, featuring a twisted central strand, characteristic of higher-grade Luftwaffe daggers. The hilt overall shows minimal wear and presents beautifully.Hanger:The dagger is complete with its original aluminum chain hanger and clip, both fully intact. The belt clip is stamped 'GES. GESCH.' and 'OLC' within a diamond, the well-known mark of Overhoff & Cie., Lüdenscheid, a major manufacturer of Third Reich hardware. This is a well-preserved and complete example of a German WWII 1st Model Luftwaffe Dagger by Carl Eickhorn, one of the most sought-after names in edged weaponry. With its original fittings, clean blade, blue leather-wrapped grip and scabbard, and marked hanger, this dagger offers both historical significance and strong visual appeal. A fine addition to any serious Luftwaffe or Third Reich edged weapon collection.
