Description
Original Third Reich RAD Hewer By Carl Jul. Krebs-This is an authentic RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst) enlisted man's hewer, manufactured by Carl Jul. Krebs of Solingen, showcasing the heavy and bold design typical of early Third Reich craftsmanship. These hewers were worn by enlisted personnel of the German Labor Service and remain highly sought after by edged weapon collectors.Hilt:The nickel-plated hilt shows honest age and handling wear, with areas of plating loss consistent with field or dress use. Despite the wear, the crossguard retains sharp details, particularly around the stylized RAD spade and ornamentation, adding to its character and authenticity.Grip:The stag horn grip plates are in excellent condition, showing deep texture and natural coloration. Both grips remain tightly secured to the hilt with no cracks, chips, or looseness, often a concern with these robustly constructed pieces.Blade:The heavy, full-length blade remains bright and retains a clear etching of the RAD motto: 'Arbeit adelt' ('Labor ennobles') on the obverse. The reverse features the Carl Jul. Krebs Solingen maker mark, along with the RAD triangle logo and 'Ges. Gesch.' (legally trademarked). While showing some minor use and light age-related graying, the blade is in very good condition overall, with crisp edges and no major flaws.Scabbard:The steel scabbard body remains straight and retains much of its original black painted finish, showing only minor wear and aging typical of period use. Both scabbard fittings are intact and in good condition, with no dents or damage. All screws remain present and undisturbed. This is a solid and collectible example of a RAD enlisted man's dress hewer, complete and unaltered, with great maker markings and original finish. A rugged and iconic design, it remains a must-have for any serious WWII edged weapon or Third Reich collection.
