WW1 German Prussian Ersatz Cloth Covered Pickelhaube

A rare and desirable 'Ersatz' helmet being of impregnated fur felt covered with a rough outer face of a tan twill linen like fabric . These are sometimes confused with tropical version but are yet another example of the adaption of production methods to provide the almost overnight massive increase in output ,that was needed for the transition to a wartime army . The helmet is certainly a battle field pick up . Interestingly there are some small signs of gold paint to the metal work . All cockades and chinstrap are original to the helmet . A super piece with much character .
