WW1 German Prussian Guard /Landsgendarmerie Pickelhaube

Sold
£975.00

Description

An interesting and long serving Pickelhaube being a pre war ,high quality issued helmet well marked to the 134R , this being a Saxon unit . The helmet has been depot reworked and fitted with The Guard Eagle/ Stern . This badge refitment clearly has been done officially, as a whole new set of badge dimension holes and brass eyelet and washers have been applied ( please see interior image ) This helmets format is correct for a Guard mans helmet however the (Dismounted) Lands Gendarmarie also wore this plate and exact format . The Lands Gendarmerie were formed from men with a minimum of at least 9 years Army service and would in wartime go from a reserve like status to that of Field Police ( Feldgendarmarie) who also wore this format in the dismounted role . The whole set has clearly been together for a very long time and all fittings are a deep red brown patinated tomback metal . Cockades and chin strap are untouched and original to the helmet . The leather lining is complete and supple and the helmets form is excellent .Yet another interesting and scare member of the pickelhaulbe family .
