Description

Original U.S. WWII M1 Early St. Clair Low-Pressure Helmet Liner with Rayon Suspension-Offered here is an authentic and very early WWII U.S. M1 helmet liner, manufactured by St. Clair and yellow inked stamped marking 'SC' in on the interior. This example is a textbook early-war low-pressure type and remains in excellent overall condition, making it a desirable piece for the advanced collector.Liner Body & Finish:The liner retains its original flat olive drab factory-applied exterior finish with light signs of age and use. It features the distinctive rectangular-sided steel (often mistaken for aluminum) washers associated with St. Clair production, all firmly intact.Suspension:This is the rare first pattern white rayon suspension, fully original to the liner. The webbing shows some age-related discoloration but remains in excellent condition with no tears or fraying.Chinstrap:The original stationary leather liner chinstrap is present but is broken on one side and exhibits dryness. This is typical for early-war examples and remains a valuable component of the liner despite the damage.Sweatband:Included is an exceedingly rare original sweatband manufactured by the George R. Carter Co., under the single contract W199-QM-25904, dated June 1, 1942. This sweatband is one of the scarcest of the war, featuring:A clear blue ink manufacturer's stampDouble-wire buckle variationTriple-weave herringbone twill webbingThe leather remains supple overall but shows expected signs of age, including some cracking and dryness.Neckband:The neckband is original and intact, marked with 'J&J', contract details, and is a size 5. It remains clean and well-preserved.This is a well-preserved, extremely desirable early-war U.S. M1 helmet liner from St. Clair, complete with its rare first pattern rayon suspension, elusive George R. Carter sweatband, and original components throughout. A superb example that would pair beautifully with an early fixed-bale helmet shell or enhance any WWII helmet collection.
