Description
Original German WWII Luftwaffe (Air Force) Officer's Sword By Weyersberg Co. With HangerThis is an original German WWII Luftwaffe officer's sword (Luftwaffenschwert), manufactured by the firm Paul Weyersberg & Co., Solingen. These swords were worn by Luftwaffe Officers as a symbol of rank and tradition, usually during formal occasions and parades.Hilt & Grip:The hilt showcases classicaluminum alloy fittings, which are lightly toned with a uniform patina, consistent with age. Thecrossguard and pommelare both adorned with sharply detailedraised sunwheel swastikas, a feature of the Luftwaffe officer's sword.Thegrip is covered in high-quality blue Moroccan leather, tightly wrapped withdouble-twisted wirethat remains intact, tarnished and securely seated. The leather exhibits only minor surface wear with no major scuffs or cracks, far better than typically encountered on period pieces.Blade:The nickel-plated steel blade is full-length and beautifully preserved, exhibiting a bright, mirror-like finish with only minor runner marks from being sheathed and unsheathed. The blade is crisply maker-marked 'Paul Weyersberg & Co., Solingen', confirming its from the Third Reich era. There is no evidence of sharpening, damage, or corrosion, indicative of careful storage and handling.Scabbard:The leather wrapped scabbard is slightly damaged due to dry leather. The original hanger ring and flat loop for belt attachment is still intact.Hanger:Included is the original Luftwaffe officer's leather hanger, a rare and valuable accessory often missing from surviving examples. These hangers alone can command $500β$700 when available. It features a working spring-loaded aluminum clip, with a matching blue leather strap and aluminum adjustment buckle. The leather remains strong and supple, with only minor signs of age; it may benefit from a leather conditioner, though it could also be left as-is.Considering its age and intended use, this Luftwaffe officer's sword, complete with its scabbard and original hanger, is in excellent condition. A fine and well-preserved example, suitable for any advanced WWII German edged weapon or Luftwaffe collection.
