Vintage 1930s prewar nautical signal flag bracelet that spells out 'Der Deutsche'. Each flag represents a letter and these types of bracelets with 'hidden' messages were popular. It is in good condition and is unmarked.Built in 1924,Der Deustchewas originally calledSierra Morenaand was owned by Norddeutscher Lloyd. In July 1934, it was charted to the DAF (Deutsche Arbeitsfront) for KdF (Kraft durch Freude) cruises and renamedDer Deutsche. It was made into a one-class ship and had various cruises around Lisbon and Madeira, Italy and Fjord trips to Norway. In March 1939,Der Deutschewas used to transport the Condor Legion back. That fall, it was deployed into naval service and was used to resettle Baltic Germans to the Reich. During WWII, it served as a transport and live-in ship in Danzig for submarine crews. It was used as a causality (and refugee) transporter in the Baltic Sea at the end of the war.
